In 1990, I wrote out a โ€œlife listโ€โ€”a set of goals and experiences I wanted to accomplish in my lifetime.

Today, I can humbly say ๐—œโ€™๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ผ๐—ณ๐—ณ ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿด% of those goals (157 out of 230). Adventures taken, milestones reached, relationships built, books written, goals achieved, places traveled, etc.

For years, that list was my motivation for living a complete life.

But as I approach another birthday, my 58th, Iโ€™m less focused on the quantity of goals remaining and more reflective about the quality of the days ahead.

Reading ๐—•๐—ถ๐—น๐—น ๐—ฃ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ธ๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜€โ€™ ๐ท๐‘–๐‘’ ๐‘Š๐‘–๐‘กโ„Ž ๐‘๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘œ reminded me that the measure of a life well lived isnโ€™t just about how many goals we check off, itโ€™s about how intentionally we live the remaining time weโ€™re given.

The actuarial math tells me ๐—œ ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ ๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜ ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฌ,๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐˜†๐˜€ ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ณ๐˜ on this planet. When I think of 10,000 days, I donโ€™t see limitation; I see possibilities.

10,000 days left to walk closer with God, to serve others, and to let my faith shape every step.

10,000 days left to hold hands, share meals, laugh with friends, and watch grandchildren grow.

10,000 days to keep learning, growing, moving, and caring for the body God gave me.

10,000 days to write, to teach, to mentor, to give back, planting seeds that will grow long after I'm gone.

10,000 chances to see the world, one sunrise at a time, and celebrate the beauty found in nature.

10,000 invitations to go, to explore, to adventure.

While I've always been reflective, Perkins shifted my perspective regarding my remaining time, in what he labels Go-Go, Slow-Go, and No-Go years.

These are for big adventures, bold goals, and memory-making.

These are for savoring simplicity, reflection, and passing on wisdom.

I donโ€™t know exactly how many days remain, but I do know theyโ€™re precious.

So hereโ€™s my focus: to spend the next chapters of my life ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜ ๐—ท๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜ completing my list, ๐—ฏ๐˜‚๐˜ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜‚๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐˜๐—ผ create experiences, memories, and impact that ripple far beyond me. Because in the end, itโ€™s the purpose that matters.
