People often ask me, "๐‘†๐‘œ, ๐‘‰๐‘–๐‘...๐‘คโ„Ž๐‘–๐‘โ„Ž ๐‘œ๐‘›๐‘’ ๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘’ ๐‘ฆ๐‘œ๐‘ข ๐‘Ÿ๐‘’๐‘Ž๐‘™๐‘™๐‘ฆ?"

The practitioner?

The scholar?

Or the evangelist?

My answer is always, yes. ๐Ÿ˜Š

By day (and many nights), Iโ€™m a practitioner throughย The Management Sherpaโ„ข, working with leaders who are navigating real pressure, real people, and real consequences. Boardrooms donโ€™t care about theory if it canโ€™t survive Monday morning.

In the classroom atย Miami University Farmer School of Business, I step into the role of scholar, helping future leaders wrestle with frameworks, evidence, reflection, and the disciplines of thinking well and sales mastery. Not just what to do, but why it worksโ€ฆ and when it doesnโ€™t.

And then thereโ€™s the evangelistโ€”the author, speaker, pilgrim, and founder of ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฆ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ท๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜ and ๐—”๐˜ƒ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐—ต ๐—ฆ๐—ฝ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—œ๐—ธ๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ฎ๐—ถโ€”inviting people to something deeper. A better way of leading. A more surrendered way of living. A belief that leadership is not about control, titles, or polish, but formation.

But beneath the surface, thereโ€™s a single red thread running through all of them. ๐Ÿ‘‰ Leadership formation.

Not leadership as performance.

Not leadership as charisma.

Not leadership as climbing.

Whether itโ€™s in boardrooms, conference rooms, or classrooms, the work is the same:

Form the leader before you scale the strategy

Shape character before you chase competence

Align purpose before you optimize performance

Iโ€™ve learned that the best leaders arenโ€™t manufactured, theyโ€™re formed. Often slowly. Usually through tension.

Leaders whose:

  • competence is matched by character

  • ambition is anchored in purpose

  • confidence is shaped by humility

  • success flows from surrender, not striving

So no, these arenโ€™t three different lanes. Theyโ€™re one calling expressed three ways. And if Iโ€™m honestโ€ฆ

I still feel like Iโ€™m learning alongside everyone else. Just with a whiteboard, a syllabus, or a trail in front of me.

Thatโ€™s the work.

Thatโ€™s the joy.

Thatโ€™s the calling.

Find your purpose. Lean into your calling. Be a leader. Make a difference.

Have a great life on purpose! Peace!!
